Nursing Orientation

The Nursing Orientation program provides the newly hired Registered Nurse with a comprehensive, sequential, orientation process.

New Employee General Orientation

• All UAB employees attend a 1 ½ days general orientation to cover information including:
• Benefits
• Parking
• General Hospital Policies
• Broad orientation to the Hospital and surrounding campus
• Obtain Employee Identification badge

Nursing Staff Development Orientation

• All newly hired Registered Nurses attend 5 ½ days of classroom orientation
Topics include:
• Roles in the Workplace
• Team Concepts
• Communication
• Risk Management
• Patient Safety
• Nursing Documentation
• Standards of Care
• Equipment Introduction and Management Aspects
• Wound Care Management
• Medication Administration
• Skills Practice

Nursing Unit Orientation

• Unit specific and variable in length according to your experience level
• 1:1 preceptor for newly hired nurses
