Pulmonary and Cystic Fibrosis Unit



The Pulmonary and Cystic Fibrosis Unit provides care for patients requiring High Dependency Respiratory Care and Respiratory Step-Down Care.

Patient Population
  • Adults 18 years of age and older
  • Asthma
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
  • Interstitial Lung Disease
  • Lung Cancer
  • Obstructive Sleep Apnea
  • Adult Cystic Fibrosis
  • Respiratory Failure of Neuromuscular Origin

Number of Beds
  • 20 Acute Care
  • 5 Step-Down

Nurse/Patient Ratio
  • 1:4-5 Acute Care
  • 1:2-3 Step-Down

Rotation/Shifts
  • 12 hour shifts 7a-7p and 7p-7a
  • Flexible scheduling options available

Skill Mix
  • Registered Nurse - 79%
  • Patient Care Technician - 21%

Nursing Unit Orientation
  • 6-8 weeks for experienced nurses
  • 8-12 weeks new graduate nurses
  • All staff members receive orientation on Step-Down unit
