Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CICU)



The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit cares for all patients undergoing open heart surgery including Coronary Artery Bypass Graft, Valve Repair/Replacement, Aortic Aneurysms, Ventricular Assist Device placement, Heart Transplant, Lung Transplant and repair of Congenital Heart Defects.

  • 20

Nurse/Patient Ratio
  • Pediatric1:1 and 1:2
  • Adult 1:2

Rotation/Shifts
  • 12 hour shifts 7a-7p and 7p-7a

Skill Mix
  • Registered Nurse
  • Patient Care Technician
  • CV Clinicians
  • Critical Care Special Procedure Technicians
  • Unit-based Clinical Educator

Nursing Unit Orientation
  • 12 week orientation program for both adult and pediatric population

Unit Requirements
  • ACLS within the one year of hire for RNs providing care for the adult population
  • PALS within one year of hire for RNs providing care the pediatric population
